Food Safety

Various bacteria and
other microorganisms are widely
present in nature and easily spread. While some have
been eradicated,
other, sometimes harder-to-eliminate,
varieties – including newly emerging microorganisms that
have become more
resistant or have adapted to a new
habitat – have arisen to take their place. New
technologies help
us to detect these organisms more
accurately than we once could which means that more
illnesses are now
attributed to be foodborne diseases.
Since we also eat out more,
we’ve placed heavy demands on foodservice facilities
and
some have found it difficult to maintain good hygiene
standards.
At the same time, better knowledge and technology have
led to improved
practices in food production and
distribution. Government and industry are constantly
working to improve
the safety of our food supply.
Though scientists remain concerned with food safety,
they also report
that America’s food supply is the safest
in the world.
New food safety initiatives should make it
even safer in
the future. |
